CIK/Date Filter
The CIK/Date Filter tool is located on the left panel of the menu, below the CIK Filter controls. It allows you to filter a search to limit the results to a specified date window around unique dates associated with each CIK in your sample. If you are only trying to limit your search results to a specific window for the entire sample then you should use the Date Filter rather than the CIK/Date Filter.
To use the CIK/Date Filter you need a CSV file with a CIK column and a MATCHDATE column. The values in the MATCHDATE column should be in the m/d/YYYY format. Note – our instances are operating with a US locale so the native format of the date will be m/d/YYYY. Below is an image of part of my sample file – I highlighted some observations in red to make sure you understand you can have as many MATCHDATEs paired with unique CIKs as called for in your research design. I have two CIKs and each is matched to two unique dates.
As with all searches you have to select the appropriate index, since the CIK/DATE filter only filters results after the search is complete you need to construct some search that reflects your goal. In my case, I simply want to identify all 8-K filings made in a window around my particular MATCHDATES so I am searching for (DOCTYPE contains(8k*)). Once you have set the parameters Select the Use CIK button in the CIK/Date Filter are and hit the Set CIK/Date File button to activate the control that allows you to select your input file and specify the date range.
As you can see in the image below, there is a Browse button. Use that to select the file. Once you have selected the file you can specify a date range (Range Days) and then whether the key date to use is the RDATE or the CDATE. The application defaults to a window +/- 10 days. However you can adjust the window to reflect your sample.
Once you have selected all of the parameters the Okay button becomes active. Hitting the Okay button closes this interface. When ready, run the search. Like all of our Post-Query filter tools. The search will run and then the documents will be filtered so that the application only retains those that meet both the search criteria and the CIK/Date Filter. Once the search is complete the results will be available and the information bar will report a summary of the results.
We know it is important for you to be able to identify those CIK-MATCHDATE pairs for which matches were not found. You can see in the image above there is a View Misses button. Hit that and the application will generate a list of those CIK-MATCHDATE pairs that did not have any documents in the output. As you can see in the image below, you can choose to Copy to Clipboard or Save as CSV.
If you select Save as CSV the file you create will have the two columns CIK and MATCHDATE with those CIK-MATCHDATE pairs that did not match to any filings.
