Local Snip/Note Viewer Available

Hopefully no later than next weekend we are going to be introducing you to a new process for accessing and working with content from financial statement notes. As part of the support tools we need to make available to improve your workflow and efficiency we have prepared a new self-contained snip viewer. If you have used our table normalization tools you are familiar with the SmartBrowser feature. One of the problems with that tool is it is tied to the ExtractionEngine and thus you have to access on our platform. Our new viewer is portable and available to download so you can use it in your own work environment.

You can download a copy of the viewer from the share we use to store our archive and data from the platform. There is a zip file inside a folder named Snip-NoteViewer. Save the zip file to your local computer and unzip it, inside there is a Read Me.txt file and a Snip-Note Viewer.html file. Double-click to open (not install) the Snip-Note Viewer.html file. It will open with your default browser engine. Here is a screenshot of the viewer loaded in Chrome.

Use the Select folder control to navigate to a folder that contains the files you want to review. All artifacts we generate have a CIK-RDATE-CDATE-F form in their name so the viewer identifies and lists all files in the folder that match this name pattern. Once you select the folder, the application will ask if you want to “Allow this site to view and copy files”. Note, this language varies based on your default choice for your web browser. There is nothing in the code that allows files to be sent or upload files and no changes are made to your files. We have to accept this warning to use the hooks provided by your browser. Select Allow.

Above is a screenshot. I extracted a selection Item 1 Business snips from the search engine. The key reason we built this was so that you don’t have to navigate to a folder and select files one by one to display if you are reviewing extracted content for data. The Previous and Next buttons allow you to move systematically through the collection.

Notice the Filter filenames entry box. If I want to jump to a particular CIK I can start entering the numbers and the viewer will filter to match that choice. The filter is very flexible. In the screenshot below I have filtered to just view filings that have a CDATE in 2026.

I did try this in Safari on a Mac and it worked, but this was only one one computer, I have very limited experience with Mac-OS but the documentation I read suggests it should work fine.

If you do access this you will see some new folders that are present for the build-out of the new financial statement notes data that we hope to release in the next week. Please note if you do access the content, it is not finalized yet and so be cautious. We are trying to imagine what else could be wrong with our capture system at this moment in time.
